Italo disco ensemble, Cruisin' Gang are Laura Fadinger, Ombretta Marsigli and Sabrina Morroya - produced by Ennio Manuel, Vallicelli and Trevisani. There was a new vision to dance music in Italy during the early 80's and many producers, musicians and artists were taking their concepts and making them a part of the dance movement.

"Chinatown" is a release from an LP by the same name that captures the essence of Cruisin' Gang - a mystical ambient-like disco track with fantastical and sensual vocals. The use of synthesizers and keyboards follows a mild energy but delivers on the atmospheric flow.

I have taken one of my favorite "film-noir" masterpieces, "Chinatown" to fill the visual end focusing on Faye Dunaway and Jack Nicholson - capturing the chemistry and some drama along with the song's drawn out suspense aura.

The film was released in 1974 - and was directed by Roman Polanski

Marliyn Chambers is a porn star from the mid 70s who also starred in David Cronenberg's horror-flick "Rabid" from 1977 - and also her one-and-only disco track, "Benihana" is featured in a short segment.

The disco 12" "Benihana" was more of a novelty recording obviously attempting to place Chambers in the disco arena along with successes like Andrea True also a porn star with her smash hit "More More More" - the great part about this recording is that it was produced by Michael Zager ("Let's All Chant").

It is one of my favorite sexy/camp disco tracks and I have taken the 12" and given it a new ReStructure Mix and added a new intro and some sexy loops.

Marilyn Chambers disco single "Benihana" from 1977 played in the scene from "Rabid" - the track was produced by Jerry Love and Michael Zager
Dynamo Records
1977
Produced by Jerry "Swamp Dog" Williams, Jr.

Hot Butter is known for their 1972 pop-classic, "Popcorn" - where the synth-arpeggio piece gave a foundation to their classic track and a few covers on their first album. The following year brought "More Hot Butter" which way the same early innovative feel - and in my experience as a kid was the early signs of synthetic pop-disco.

"You Should Be Dancing" is a shift to a more dominant disco sound being created in 1977 and also a cover of Gene Farrow's underground (Beach Boy's-like) classic. The production was handed over to Jerry "Swamp Dog" Williams, Jr. who recorded several singles starting in the early 60s.

This is an underground disco cover from the same year as the original and one 12" I can remember finding at Tower Records in the "Disco" section for 99 cents!!!
Wide Angle Records
1987
Produced by Dan Martin and Michael Biello

Ms. Karen Young made dance floors hotter in 1978 with her hit, "Hot Shot" produced by Andy Kahn and Kurt Borusieqicz. Her vocal was the "scat"-like sound of disco and a range that awoke the wall-flowers.

"Change In Me" is a 12" single which gives Karen a brief moment to lift the dance floor again with a industrial sounding instrumental that lends a bit of energy. It is no "Shot Shot" by any means - but hearing Karen again and those pipes make it worth it. "Eye On You" is very similar with a "down-beat" arrangement and again a cross between Miami-freestyle and disco.

80s pop influenced track leaving a wide space open for a great disco voice - thank you Karen!

Our Love" is a track, which is a love song, set to the fabulous music of Giorgio Moroder along with the alluring vocals of Donna Summer.

It is truly one of the disco music's most innovative and lasting attempts on the dance floor. There is a very strong emotional piece left behind with both Moroder's music and Donna's vocals. A recognizable part of this song may be the beat tracks, which definitely were the inspiration for New Order's "Blue Monday".

This ReStructure Mix was executed with a minimal of new elements added and only original parts left intact and re-wired.

Dedicated to Bob T. of Centereach, NY.

The 1973 science fiction film, "Soylent Green" is paired with the 1979 German disco band hit, "Future World" -- a whole new look on the Stanley Greenberg screenplay based on the Harry Harrison novel. The planet is in the "over population" stage and the environment has been effect by the greenhouse effect making the temperature reach unbearable highs.

The film starred Charlton Heston, Leigh Taylor-Young, Brock Peters, Joseph Cotton, Chuck Connors, Paula Kelly and was the last film for Edward G. Robinson.

Although Ganymed's tune outlines an "Automatic Lover" style lyric, I have paired it with some of "Soylent Green's" grayish and disturbing scenes to give it a new contrast.

The song was a minor hit here in the US as it appeared at the end of the disco wave -- but I understand the band was still a bit hit in Germany and surrounding areas. Their sound was recognizable and in the early 80's a must for after-hours dancing or drinking. Great synthetic feel.
Disco magic is The Salsoul Orchestra - with the lead conductor and producer, Mr. Vincent Montana. This true Philly disco sound is from the soulful sound of bands like M.F.S.B. and influences like Barry White.

A complete orchestra with a funky groove. A movement in the mid-70s which helped give disco music it's place on both the dance floor and in identity. Many of the players here are familiar to the scene and helped to give the 70s it's memorable sounds: John Davis, Ron Baker, Earl Young, Bobby Eli, Norman Harris, Ron Kersey and Larry Washington.

This EP is the second chapter of this deep house driven studio project from three disc jockeys. The beats and percussion are in the electronic "go" mode for the very nice dive into a house venture.

One of the big tracks which lead my floor into a house set was always "Alright" - even today brings back the early 90s as a innovative time and also another moment in dance history where music changed to suit the mood.

Why Not is Italian producer Gianni Salvatori (Matia Bazar, RAF, Italian Boys, Ross, The Nasty Boys) along with arranger Ricardo Eterno – their 1987 project “Space Trouble” is an electronic dance track which is similar to Italian acts like Koto and Laserdance. It is a fusion of synthetic percussion and wild-and-50’s sci-fi edged keyboards.

I have paired this Italo-disco track to the 1979 sci-fi horror flick “Alien” starring Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt and Veronica Cartwright. The story centers on a mining ship investigating a suspected SOS on a distant planet and ends up discovering a strange alien “terror”.

The film moves well with the disco syncopated groove and the wacky-voice overs – it is a new way of seeing this flick where “in space no one can hear you scream!”
Donna Summer -- the Queen of Disco -- died this morning after a battle with cancer ... TMZ has learned.

We're told Summer was in Florida at the time of her death. She was 63 years old.

Sources close to Summer tell us ... the singer was trying to keep the extent of her illness under wraps. We spoke to someone who was with Summer a couple of weeks ago ... who says she didn't seem too bad.

In fact, we're told she was focused on trying to finish up an album she had been working on.

Summer was a 5-time Grammy winner who shot to superstardom in the '70s with iconic hits like "Last Dance," "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girls."

She continued her dominance in the '80s with "She Works Hard for the Money" and "This Time I Know It's for Real."

Summer and her producer Giorgio Moroder defined the dance music era of the '70s and influenced acts like Duran Duran and David Bowie to enter the genre.

Summer married Brooklyn Dreams singer Bruce Sudano back in 1980. They had two daughters together.

H & L Records
1978
Produced by Landy McNeal

Sandy Mercer is one of the independent label H & L Records most promising soul/disco vocalists. Her album "Hey Love Come and Get It" is one of the disco pieces which define the female vocal of disco music.

"Play With Me" is a touch of the big band edge with Sandy's very nice vocal performance - mixed by Walter Gibbons and Steve D'Acquisto. This12" double sided with another great track from Sandy's album is "You Are My Love". The production reflects the live disco band mixed into a club record. Very nice!

A hidden treasure and an early sound of disco music which joins a very nice bridge for a soul vocalist and the club sound of the late 70s.
Green Production Record (Italy)
1989
Produced by M. Bartoletto and Sergio Dall'Ora

Comancero (Mandy Ligios) is a Greek singer who had a big Italo-disco hit in 1984 titled "Comanchero" - it is covered here again under the name Comancero. This '89 Remix signals the arrival of Euro-house with it's bass driven production and light keyboard accents.

The original is much slower and done in a more after-hours tradition and this remix gives the song a new energy. It is a big mark that 80s administered the house music feel which began in clubs in Chicago and with groups like Pet Shop Boys and production teams like SAW.

Big hit in my club and a definite 2 copy remix must!
*REISSUE: "My Love Is Music" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Space*...

REISSUE: "My Love Is Music" - Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix - Space

Space was Didier Marouani and Roland Romanelli - their second LP "Just Blue" was released in 1978.

It was a period of music when keyboards began to construct the sound and mood of music becoming a New Age sound. Space became disco's answer to a more futuristic and ambient feel which sometimes included a live band accompaniment with instruments embellishing their music's excitement.

"My Love Is Music" is the first dance hit off of the LP which featured Madeline Bell, again as lead vocal - creating a wall of energy with this track. It was later recorded by Gloria Gaynor in the early 80's and was a hit all over again.

This has always been one of my favorite tracks with a statement about disco music that an audiophile could identify with. I have used the pumping bass lines and piano tracks to create a more spacious mix and take advantage again of Madeline's fantastic vocal.

This ReStructure Mix is dedicated to Madleine Bell.
